In this article, we'll show you how to optimize images (reduce their weight) to improve your online store's loading time.
Select images of the right size
The first step is to select images of the right size. If you need images of 1024 x 1024 pixels, then don't use larger images. You can use software such as GIMP, Photoshop or Photopea to modify the image dimensions.
On Windows, dimensions can be viewed by right-clicking on the image Properties Details
Use the right format
Some formats are better suited to the web. The webp image format is the best possible format for the web. Otherwise, JPG and PNG formats are preferred. When you save an image, you can choose a compression level. Remember to compress your images as soon as you save them.
Tools such as Convertio are available to convert existing images to WEBP format.
Use TinyPNG to compress your images
TinyPNG is a free online service that lets you compress your images. Drag and drop your images onto the TinyPNG service to start compression, then download the compressed versions for use on your website.
