Why evaluate your product catalog?
Evaluating the product catalog is crucial. This feature indeed allows you to know in real time the status of your stocks, monitor your sales and have a clear idea of the success of your products.
How to evaluate your product catalog?
On PrestaShop, the catalog evaluation is done by colors and according to standards established by the user:
- The green color indicates that a product is within the superior standard compared to what you have defined.
- The orange color indicates that a product is within the average of what you have defined.
- The red color indicates that a product is within the lower standard of what you have defined.
Example: if you have defined that the optimal length of a description is 400 characters and a product description only contains 100 characters, the catalog evaluation will indicate that this description is insufficient.
Which elements of the catalog can be evaluated?
You can define the limits for the following elements:
- Descriptions
- Images
- Sales
- Quantity available for sale
How to configure your evaluation?
The "Catalogue Evaluation" menu allows you to define your own catalogue evaluation values, i.e. to personalise the minimum and maximum thresholds beyond which you wish to be alerted.
For example: you may consider that two sales per month is an insufficient figure and five sales per month a perfect figure. In this case, refer to the "Sales" line and enter "2" in the "Insufficient" column and "5" in the "Perfect" column.
Once your values have been defined, click on "Save" to update the table located just below, which displays the items in your catalogue according to the results of your thresholding.
All this information will allow you to prevent stock shortages (in the case where a product sells well) and identify promotions (in the case where a product sells poorly).
To make changes to your evaluation, click on the link of the product concerned. You will be automatically redirected to its product sheet and will thus be able to modify it.
How to identify problems with your shop?
The different tables in the product catalog indicate the elements of your catalog where you are encountering a problem. Here are the elements that could be harming your shop:
- The empty categories. This table lists the name and the number of categories that do not contain any products. Delete them or add products to them. This will prevent a customer, while browsing your store, from ending up in an empty category.
- List of products with variations and no quantity available for sale. Display products with variations but which are no longer for sale. Take the necessary steps to restock them.
- List of products without variations and without quantity available for sale. Display products without variations which are no longer for sale. Take the necessary steps to restock them.
- List of deactivated products. This table lists the name and number of products that have been removed from sale and are no longer visible to your customers. If you want them to be visible again, consider activating them, otherwise, remove them from your catalogue.
- List of products without images. This list allows you to immediately identify which product sheets, published or unpublished, do not have images.
💡 This is a very useful function when you import your catalogue with a CSV file. It can happen that the images are missing from the file, so you can very easily find your product sheets and complete them. |
- List of products without descriptions. This table displays all the products whose description is missing.
💡 The description of a product is very important for the referencing of your shop. It is therefore necessary for each product sheet to include a description containing a maximum number of keywords. |
- List of products without prices. This last table shows you the products visible on the front-office of your store but for which the price has not been specified. It is obviously difficult in this case to make sales.
