The PrestaShop software consists of a base to which different features are added through the installation of extensions called modules or addons.
Some modules can be said to be "native" because they are already integrated on every PrestaShop store, and do not need to be purchased and added. To learn more about the very principle of module, you can consult the dedicated article!
Access the modules
The "Module Manager" page of the "Modules" menu gives you access to the list of addons.
This list allows you to quickly find the module you want. You can also enter the name of the module you are looking for in the search box.
Filter the modules
Several filtering options are available:
- By feature categories
- By status enabled/disabled and installed/uninstalled
Manage modules
You can perform certain actions module by module, or in a group.
The available actions:
- Configure: Some modules have a configuration page. In this case, they display a "Configure" link to access a new interface, from where you can adjust their settings.
- Activate/Deactivate: When installed, a module is enabled by default. You can disable it, which will remove its options from your back office but will keep its settings in view for possible reactivation.
- Enable/Disable on mobile: This action will disable the front-office view of the module for mobile devices (smartphones, etc.).
- Install/Uninstall: This action will deploy the basic configuration of a module.
- Reset: The default settings will be restored, as if the module had just been installed. Please note that only "Administrators" profiles can perform a reset.
- Delete: This option is only present in grouped actions. It will delete all files and folders of the module, which will therefore no longer be available at all on your back office.
A confirmation pop-up will be displayed when you choose an irreversible action. When uninstalling, you are offered to also delete the module folder, be careful when using this option.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between deactivation, uninstallation and deletion?
If you no longer wish to use a module, you can choose to disable it, uninstall it or delete it. The result of these actions is a priori the same: the module is not active, its options no longer appear in your back office, and the items it may have added to the front office disappear.
The difference is nevertheless important:
- Disabling the module retains its configuration, so you can recover everything when it is reactivated.
- Uninstallation retains the module, but removes its configuration data.
- Deletion removes the module files from your software, making it disappear from the list of the module manager. It will need to be uploaded again if you wish to reinstall it.
It is therefore advisable to uninstall and/or delete a module only if you no longer care about its data or if you are sure that you will no longer need it.
You can always add a module to your site again, either directly from your back office, or via the PrestaShop Marketplace site.
Where to find modules?
Your back office normally has a Marketplace space from where you can directly obtain and install modules. If this is not the case, you can install the PrestaShop Marketplace module in your Back Office.
The Marketplace website is also a good place to find a wide range of modules. Check out our article on how it works.
