Some manipulations are to be avoided or recommended in order not to encounter an error when associating a store and a PrestaShop account. Here are some tips to help you.
Link the store with your own account
This advice applies in particular if you are accompanied by an agency. Indeed, the agency usually has a hand in your store to help you grow your business.
Nevertheless, the best practice would be to associate your own account with the store (because legally it belongs to you) and not that of the agency. Especially since if the service ends and your store is associated with the agency's account, you will no longer be able to dissociate it and you will be blocked.
Backup and differentiate your identifiers well
A PrestaShop store can request the management of multiple login credentials (see the article Where to find the information needed for technical support).
It is therefore crucial to keep all the identifiers that you will generate when creating your store (FTP, back-office, hosting...) and only communicate them to trusted people.
We recommend using a login and password manager for this.
Do not duplicate your database as long as it is associated with a PrestaShop account
It happens that you need to duplicate your store and for this, you must make a copy of the database. This action may prove problematic if your store was still associated with your PrestaShop account at the time of duplication.
Indeed, when the store is associated with a PrestaShop account, store tokens (or tokens) are stored in the database. By copying your store, you will duplicate these tokens.
By changing the domain name of the new store directly in the database, your store's token will have a different domain name than that of the store, which will cause problems with the association between the store and the account.
To avoid any confusion, remember to always disassociate your store from your account before making a copy of the store's database.
