Cybersecurity should be at the heart of the concerns of anyone navigating the internet. We will address how to respond to a very common risk.
What is phishing?
This is a fraud technique that uses emails impersonating a trusted third party in order to steal personal data, such as an identifier, a password, a credit card number, etc.
Example of phishing: you receive an email allegedly sent by PrestaShop requesting you to open an attachment or click on a link, failing which your store will be swiftly closed.
How to identify a phishing attempt?
Several signs may alert you and assist you in identifying a phishing attempt:
- Is there consistency between the email address and the company? Example: email sent by contact@shppresta.com (and not @prestashop.com)
- If you are asked to click on a button or a hyperlink by positioning your mouse over them, is there consistency between the hyperlink and the company? Example: hyperlink pointing to a site shop.boom.com and not prestashop.com
- Is the request being made to you customary?
- Are there any spelling or syntax errors present?
- Are you being asked to carry out an action urgently?
What actions should be taken?
- If you have entered your credentials and/or passwords, please change your password immediately and check what harmful actions may have been carried out on your account.
- Report the email as "phishing" in your messaging system.
- In case of any doubt regarding an email that appears to originate from PrestaShop, do not hesitate to contact support.
