Cybersecurity should be at the heart of everyone's concerns when browsing the internet. We will discuss how to react to a very common risk.
What is phishing?
This is a scam technique using emails impersonating the identity of a trusted third party in order to steal personal data, such as an ID, a password, a bank card number, etc.
Example of phishing: you receive an email allegedly sent by PrestaShop asking you to open an attachment or click on a link, otherwise your store will be closed quickly.
How to spot a phishing attempt?
Several signs can alert you and help you identify a phishing attempt:
- Is there a match between the email address and the company? Example: email sent by contact@shppresta.com (and not @prestashop.com)
- If you are asked to click on a button or a hyperlink, when positioning your mouse on them, is there consistency between the hyperlink and the company? Example: hyperlink referring to a site shop.boom.com and not prestashop.com
- Is the request made to you usual?
- Are there any spelling or syntax errors?
- Are you being asked to take urgent action?
What actions to take?
- If you have entered your credentials and/or passwords, immediately change the password and check what harmful actions may have been carried out on your account.
- Flag the email as "phishing" in your email.
- If you have any doubts about an email that appears to be from PrestaShop, do not hesitate to contact us.
