Fix images to get your products approved

Why your images may cause your products to be rejected

Some of your products have images with promotional text (like a retailer logos, a discount sticker, a call to action) or watermarks, which can obstruct the view of your product. 

All products on Google Ads and Free Listings require an image with an unobstructed view of the product. Products that don’t meet this requirement are disapproved and remain disapproved until their images are updated.

Follow these guidelines to make sure your image meets our requirements and is optimized for the best performance.

How to fix the issue and get your products approved

Let’s talk solutions! You may use Merchant Center or PrestaShop back office to fix the issues.

 

Turn on image improvements to automatically fix your images!

If a promotional overlay is detected on a main image, that product will be disapproved because it doesn’t meet the image requirements.

If you activate the automatic removal tool, Google will try to automatically fix these images by removing promotional overlays. If the removal is successful, the image will be replaced and the product will be reapproved.

Note that this fully-automated process may not always be successful. If an image can’t be improved, the product will remain disapproved. In rare cases, promotional overlays may remain untouched or other non-promotional parts of the image may be removed.

If you are not satisfied with an automatically improved image, you can replace it by uploading a new image yourself (see instructions below).

Images of approved products remain untouched and unchanged.

Automatic image improvements are turned off by default. You can turn them on and manage your settings at any time.

To manage the settings for automatic image improvements:

  1. Sign in to your Merchant Center account.
  2. Click the tools icon ⚙️, then select Automatic improvements under “Settings.”
  3. On the following page, click the Image improvements tab and adjust your settings for automatic image improvements.

Note: You may keep an image with overlays, for instance a furniture with dimensions displayed on the image, as long as it’s not the first picture shown.

 

Fix products one by one directly in Merchant Center

  1. Go to Products in Merchant Center, then select the Needs attention tab.
  2. Use the filter icon  above the table to find all products affected by your issue.
  3. Click on the title of the product you want to fix, then click Edit product.
  4. Change the URL that you’ve submitted via the image link [image_link] attribute so that it points to a valid product image. Alternatively, make sure the image at the end of the provided image URL meets the overlay requirements.
  5. Select Save.

 

Fix multiple products at once

  1. Go to Products in Merchant Center, then select the Needs attention tab.
  2. Use the filter icon above the table to find all products affected by your issue.
  3. Select the Download icon to download a list (.csv) of all affected products for all issues or this particular issue.
  4. Cross reference the downloaded list with your uploaded product data, and make sure the URLs that you’ve submitted for each affected product via the image link [image_link] attribute lead to valid product images. Alternatively, make sure the images at the end of the provided image URLs meet the overlay requirements.
  5. Reupload your corrected product data to Merchant Center using your chosen upload method.

 

Fix product images in PrestaShop back office 

  1. Log in to your PrestaShop back office.
  2. Click on Catalog, then Products.
  3. Click on the disapproved product you want to change the picture of.
  4. In the Basic Settings section, click on the picture to reupload your corrected product
