How to use meta tags on PrestaShop?
On your homepage
To add meta tags to your homepage, here is the procedure to follow:
1. Go to the main menu, click on the "Preferences" tab, and then select "SEO & URLs".
Choose the page 'index.php'.
Next, fill in the meta tags.
On your Category pages.
For your category pages, the process of adding meta tags is different:
In the main menu, select the "Catalog" tab and then "Category".
On the left side of the screen, you will see a small box to check, and then on the right, you select the pencil (the cross will delete the category!). This will allow you to edit your categories and add your meta-tags. Of course, you can also enter them at the time of category creation.
On your Product pages
For this page, it is yet another different procedure:
1. Go to the "Catalog" tab and then to "Products"
2. Once the list of your products has appeared, select the product you wish to tag.
Finally, select the "SEO" tab and fill in your meta tags.
5 mistakes to avoid in your tags
- Do not use the same description for multiple pages; otherwise, search engines will consider that you are duplicating your pages, a practice that is prohibited in SEO. Therefore, a unique description for each page.
- Do not list keywords as a description, as search engines will categorize you as SPAM. The description summarizes your page and elaborates on the title.
- Do not repeat the same keyword in close proximity.
- Do you wish to offer your site in multiple languages? No problem! However, you must separate your site into a distinct entity in order not to be considered a spammer due to repetitions.
- Finally, avoid accents and special characters that are not well-regarded by search engines.
