Your PrestaShop store consists of many modules attached to the basic software. These modules must be updated regularly to benefit from the following advantages:
- Vulnerability issues corrections
- Bug fixes
- Features improvements
- New features
Keeping the modules up to date allows you to have a more stable, more secure store with as few problems as possible.
Check if the module is up to date
Go to the back office of your store, in the Modules > Module Manager menu. If you are looking for a module in particular, you can search for it to display it directly.
If you do not see the green "Update available" label and the drop-down menu on the far right of the module line does not offer to update it, then the module is already at its latest version.
When a module is available on the Marketplace, you can also check if the version on its product sheet corresponds to the one indicated in your back office. For example for PrestaShop Account:
On your back office
On the PrestaShop Marketplace
Finally, you can also check which modules can be updated by going to the dedicated tab, which will display a list of modules with a new version available.
Updating the module
There are two ways to update a module, but before performing the update:
- Check that the new version of the module is compatible with your version of PrestaShop.
- Check that your Business Care subscription is activated for this module.
- Save the module configuration (via a screenshot for example).
- Backup the module files by logging into the FTP (see this article to learn more about FTP).
- Place your store in maintenance mode.
📝 It is highly recommended to update each module one by one and test your store after each update. This helps to limit errors, or to easily find their source if necessary. |
Updating via the back office
If you haven't already, associate your store with your PrestaShop account.
Go to the module manager, find the desired module and select "upgrade" in the drop-down menu on the right.
If your store is based on the Open Source version, you will also need to install the PrestaShop Marketplace in your Back Office module to be able to update certain modules.
Updating via the PrestaShop Marketplace
Go to the PrestaShop Marketplace, either on the product sheet of the module or on the Products tab of your account, and download the desired module. It will be saved as a zip file. Then, you just have to upload the zip to the module manager on your back office.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have modified the module code, can I still install an update?
