First and foremost, it is important to understand the difference between the front office and the back office to avoid any confusion. In summary:
- The back office is the administration space where you will manage all the operations of your online store.
- The front office is the interface for customers, the website part where they can discover your catalog and make their purchases.
💡 You can check this article to learn more about the distinction between back-office and front-office. |
Depending on your type of store, Hosted, Classic or Open Source, the steps to connect to the back office will be slightly different.
With the PrestaShop Hosted offer
- Equip yourself with your credentials, you filled them in when you subscribed to the Hosted offer. They are used to access your PrestaShop account and your back office, keep them safe.
- Access the back-office login page, you received its link by email within 24 hours of subscribing to Hosted.
- Enter your email address and password.
You are now connected to your Hosted back office! If you do not find some of your credentials, do not hesitate to contact PrestaShop support.
💡 Please note that your store will automatically be in maintenance mode when installed. It is up to you to decide when you want to make your front office available by disabling this mode. For more information, see our article on maintenance mode! |
With an open source store or PrestaShop Classic
The procedure does not seem so different from that for Hosted, but there are some crucial differences.
- Have your credentials ready that you created when you set up your store. The difference with Hosted: these credentials will not be the same as those of your PrestaShop account, they are independent!
- Access the back office login page. The difference with Hosted: the link to your back office is displayed at the end of the store installation, and will not necessarily be sent to your email address. If you lose this link, it is possible to find it by accessing your FTP files.
- Enter your email address and password, which are therefore not those of your PrestaShop account.
- Click on "login" to access the back office.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to find the login page?
In the case of a Hosted store, you can find the back office login page in the confirmation email "Your store is installed".
In the case of a Classic or Open Source store, if you follow the installation steps correctly, PrestaShop will rename the administration folder to give it a unique name and thus secure access: the "/admin" folder will become, for example, "/admin7703". This unique name will help you recover the URL of your back office. In our example, you would need to type the following URL, https://www.monprestashop.com/admin7703, to access the login page to the back office of your store. Always remember to save this URL and your personal credentials.
