Depending on your shop type: Hosted, Classic, or Open Source, and whether you use PrestaShop Account or not, the steps to log into the back office will vary slightly.
With an Open Source or PrestaShop Classic Shop
The procedure may not seem very different from Hosted, but there are some crucial differences.
- Have your credentials created during the installation of your shop ready. The difference with Hosted: these credentials will not be the same as those of your PrestaShop account; they are independent!
- Access the back office login page. The difference with Hosted: the link to your back office is displayed at the end of the shop installation and may not necessarily be sent to your email address. If you lose this link, you can find it by accessing your FTP files.
- Enter your email address and password, which are therefore not those of your PrestaShop account.
- Click "Log in" to access the back office.
If you logged into your PrestaShop account via the pre-installed module on the Classic version, or if you downloaded and installed it on an Open Source version, then you can log in using your PrestaShop Account credentials.
You can also alternatively log in with the credentials provided at shop creation by clicking on 'Log in with another method' at the bottom of the page.

With the PrestaShop Hosted Offer
- Access the back office login page; you received its link by email within 24 hours after subscribing to Hosted.
- Log in using your PrestaShop Account credentials.
You are now logged into your Hosted back office! If you cannot find some of your credentials, do not hesitate to contact PrestaShop support.
| 💡 Please note that your shop will automatically be in maintenance mode upon installation. It is up to you to decide when you want to make your front office available by disabling this mode. To learn more, see our article on maintenance mode! |
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find the back office login page?
- Hosted Shop: find the link in the confirmation email "Your shop is installed".
-
Classic or Open Source Shop: during installation, PrestaShop renames the administration folder to secure access.
For example, the folder
*/admin*might become*/admin7703*.
In this case, the back office URL will look like: https://www.myprestashop.com/admin7703
Be sure to save this URL and your credentials in a safe place.
I can't log into the back office, what should I check first?
- Verify that you are using the correct login method (installation credentials vs. PrestaShop Account).
- Check the spelling of the email address (spaces, uppercase letters, copy/paste errors).
- Try in private browsing/incognito mode or another browser, and clear the cache if needed.
What is the difference between my shop credentials and my PrestaShop Account?
- Shop credentials (Classic / Open Source): created during installation, specific to your back office.
- PrestaShop Account: the “global” PrestaShop account (services, modules, etc.) which can also be used to log into the back office if the shop is linked to PrestaShop Account.
I forgot my back office password (Classic / Open Source), what should I do?
Use the “Forgot password” link on the back office login page (if available).
If you cannot access it (or if the email does not arrive), you will need technical access (FTP / database) or ask your host/provider for help.
I don't receive the password reset email, why?
- Check your spam/junk folders.
- Make sure you are using the correct email address (the employee/back office account email, not necessarily the PrestaShop Account email).
- On Classic / Open Source, there might be an email configuration issue (SMTP server, host). In this case, technical assistance may be needed.
I get a 404 error or a blank page when I open the back office URL, what should I do?
- Confirm that the URL is correct (especially the
/adminXXXXfolder). - On Classic / Open Source: if you renamed/deleted the admin folder, the old URL will no longer work.
- If you use a CDN, server cache, or Cloudflare, try disabling the cache temporarily (or use private browsing).
Can I change the administration folder URL (Classic / Open Source)?
Yes, but this is a sensitive operation: if the folder is renamed correctly, the URL changes.
You must then update your habits/favorites and keep the new URL in a safe place.
Why does my back office sometimes ask me to “Log in with another method”?
Because the login page offers multiple methods (e.g., “classic” login vs. login via PrestaShop Account) depending on your shop configuration and installed modules.
I have multiple accounts/employees: who should log in with what?
On Classic / Open Source:
- Each employee can have their own back office credentials.
- Login via PrestaShop Account depends on the configuration: it can be convenient but does not always replace “classic” employee accounts.
I am logged into PrestaShop Account but do not have access to the back office, why?
Being logged into PrestaShop Account does not automatically guarantee back office rights:
- You must have an active and authorized employee account in the shop, or
- The shop must be properly linked to PrestaShop Account (depending on configuration and modules).
Can maintenance mode prevent logging into the back office?
No, maintenance mode mainly concerns the front office (site visible to visitors).
Generally, you can always log into the back office even if the shop is in maintenance mode.
