The product section of the back office provides you with a very comprehensive overview of the status of your catalog. To make the best use of it, follow the guide!
To access it: Catalog > Products.
Understanding the dashboard
By clicking on the Catalog > Products page, you open a page that displays the list of your products, which you can sort by ID, image, name, reference, category, price, quantity, and status.
- ID: this is the unique number that identifies the product in your store. This number is automatically assigned by PrestaShop upon the creation of the product. Thus, if two products have the same name, they will always have a different ID.
- Image: it is the visual representation of your product.
- Name: it is the name you have assigned to your product. It is important that the name is explicit for your customer, but also that it contains keywords to assist in the indexing of your store on search engines.
| 💡 A product named "Dress" will not provide any information to your customer. On the other hand, a product named "Short Dress with Floral Pattern" will be much more explicit and will introduce keywords for your SEO. Reference: this is the reference you have assigned to your product. This reference appears on the product page of your site as well as on the order form. |
- Category: this is the main category to which you have attached the product.
| 💡 A product can be linked to multiple categories. If you sell denim jackets, the product can be linked to both a "Jacket" category and a "Denim" category. To learn everything about categories, do not hesitate to consult this article. |
- Amount excluding tax: this is the displayed price before taxes.
- Amount including tax: this is the displayed price including VAT.
- Quantity: this is the current amount of units for this product. Status: this indicates whether the product is activated or not.
- Actions: these are the options to modify your product sheet.
How to sort your products in the back office?
PrestaShop offers you the possibility to sort your products using several terms through the search bar. Here is how to sort your products using the various filters.

- ID: to display your products by a range of identifiers that you will have defined. This feature is very advantageous when you have a comprehensive catalog.
- Name: to filter by customer names.
- Reference: to filter by product reference.
- Category: in the event that your catalog contains many products and numerous categories or subcategories, you may choose to display only the products from the category you wish to address.
- Price: you can conduct a product search by price range by specifying the desired minimum and maximum values. This will allow you to display your products regardless of the categories in which they are located.
- Quantity: the same principle applies as for prices; you can perform a search by quantity, which will provide you with a quick overview of your stock and thus enable you to anticipate your restocking needs.
- State: you can set up a filter on the activated products that are therefore visible in your store or the inactive products that you have voluntarily deactivated.
Understanding the advanced settings
At the top right of the product list, an action button, symbolized by a gear icon, allows access to the following technical options:

- Export: to download the list of all products in the catalog in the form of a CSV file.
- Import: to redirect to the Advanced Settings > Import page, from which it is possible to import your catalog in CSV format.
- View the SQL query: to retrieve the SQL query that allows access to the products in your database.
- Export to the SQL manager: to redirect to the Advanced Settings > Database page, which opens the PrestaShop SQL manager, with which it is possible to browse your database.
How to add a new product?
The Catalog > Back-office Products page also allows for the creation of a product via the "New Product" button located at the top right.
